teagan's texas tour

A while ago I had the realization that my daughter is not technically a "Texan." It's weird to think that when she grows up, no matter where she lives, when people ask her where she's from, she won't say, "Texas." Sad, huh? Sean and I are both having a hard time with this. Even though Sean was born in Alaska, Texas is still "home" to him (he moved there when he was three).

We traveled down to the lone star state last week for a whirlwind tour so that Teags could meet her great-grandparents and so that we could attend the wedding of one of Sean's cousins. It was a busy busy busy 4 days, but we all survived!

Here are some highlights:
  • Teagan's first plane ride
    • We were really nervous about this, but I think we packed and prepared as best we could. She did really well. She did cry for a bit, but luckily I was able to sooth her pretty quickly with a pacifier or a bottle.

    • Meeting the "greats"
      • We were able to spend time with my 95 year-old Memaw (my dad's mom). Teagan's middle name, Ella, is after my Memaw, Ella Blanch. It was precious seeing how proud my Memaw was about the name- everyone who came up to us at lunch and dinner learned that Memaw's real first name is Ella, not Blanch- the one she has gone by most of her life.

      • Teagan also got to meet Grandma D, my mom's mom, and my great Aunt Doris and Uncle Carl, my mom's aunt & uncle. My sister and I spent a lot of fun times in San Antonio and Victoria with these folks. It was so nice to see them and introduce them to our baby girl.
    • The Wedding
      • Sean comes from a pretty big family. He has a lot of aunts, uncles, cousins, and second cousins.... we attended a wedding in Boerne and had a wonderful time catching up with so many people who we love but don't get to see that often. Teagan did amazingly well at the wedding. Once we noticed that she was getting sleepy, we swaddled her and rocked her to sleep. After that, she slept through the live band and everything. We went back to the hotel, put her in her car seat to sleep and stayed up chatting with family until 1AM! Lucky us. We are so thankful that she seems to be pretty flexible.
    • Visiting the Mezgers in San Marcos
      • We had to drive back to Houston on Sunday but couldn't resist catching up with the Mezgers, and their new (3rd) baby, Blair. They were very sweet and offered to meet us in San Marcos so that we could spend more time together. We met up at a children's park and hung out on a blanket in the beautiful weather! It was so lovely to see them and I feel sad that we don't live near each other- I could learn so much from my friend and super-mom, Melissa!!

    • Visiting Katie, Kira, & Nicole and Matt Danner
      • It was great to see some of our dearest Houston friends. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures with them, but I thought I would write it here as a highlight so that I can remember how sweet our time was together. This time next year, we will be celebrating with Nic & Matt.
Overall, it was a crazy busy trip, but we had a blast and it was really nice to see family & friends. It actually made me really wish that we lived closer to loved ones. Here's a pic of how Teags traveled throughout Texas.... she had a so much fun, can't you tell? Haha.
